The Royal Pharmaceutical Society, in partnership with Sense About Science, hosted its fourth annual reception on 31 October, themed “Trick or treatment? Helping the public make sense of science”, at the Society’s headquarters in London.

Television presenter and president of HealthWatch, Nick Ross, spoke about the need for scientific trials for alternative medicines, and the current public misunderstanding of the word “chemical”. Presentations were also given by Stephen Denyer, chairman of the Society’s Science Committee, and Tracey Brown, director of Sense about Science.

Sense About Science is an independent charitable trust promoting good science and evidence in public debates. It does this by promoting respect for evidence and by urging scientists to engage actively with a wide range of groups, particularly when debates are controversial or difficult.
