Prucalopride for constipation

Phase III research into novel 5-HT4-receptor agonist prucalopride has yielded favourable results for patients with chronic constipation.

Analysis of 713 patients, presented at a United European Gastroenterology Week meeting in Paris last month, revealed that a greater percentage of those randomised to receive prucalopride 2mg or 4mg had three or more complete bowel motions per week than those receiving placebo (P<0.01).
