HIV vaccine not effective

Merck and Co’s investigational HIV vaccine — V520 — has been shown to be ineffective at preventing HIV infection in individuals not infected with the virus at the start of a phase II study or at reducing the amount of virus within those who became infected throughout the course of the study.

Results suggest that subjects given V520 might be more susceptible to HIV infection.
