Nicotine for levodopa dyskinesias

Use of nicotine or selective nicotine agonists could represent a useful strategy for treating dyskinesias brought on by levodopa medicines in Parkinson's disease, according to research published online in the Annals of Neurology (24 October 2007).

Levodopa-treated monkeys with Parkinsonian-type lesions experienced fewer dyskinesias when given nicotine compared with those not receiving nicotine.
