Society appoints new head of public affairs and head of practice

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed new heads of public affairs and of practice.

Charles Willis: new public affairs head

Charles Willis took up his position as head of public affairs on 1 November 2007. He reports to Deborah Oliver, interim director of public affairs and communications.

Mr Willis has a master of arts degree in politics, and over 20 years’ experience in government, consultancy and in-house public affairs.

His previous posts include head of external affairs at the Adolescent and Children’s Trust, director of Burson-Marsteller Public Affairs, acting director of communications at the Royal College of Midwives and head of the Parliamentary Information Unit and Assistant to the Chief Whip and other whips in the Labour Whips Office.

Heidi Wright has been promoted from her previous position as head quality improvement and took up her new post as head of practice on 12 November 2007. She reports to David Pruce, director of practice and quality improvement.

As head of practice, her key tasks will include: maintaining and developing a strategic approach to the implementation of Council’s policy on the development of the profession; advising and assisting in the development of the practice of pharmacy in all sectors; and developing and promoting good practice standards within the profession of pharmacy.
