Pharmacy practice training body takes up residence at London School of Pharmacy

Pharmacy practice training and development continues to evolve in the south east of England with the Joint Programmes Board (JPB) for London, East and South East England taking up residence in London University School of Pharmacy’s advanced pharmacy studies centre.

At a recent event to open the JPB premises, 16 pharmacists were presented with the JPB’s first “statements of completion of general pharmacy practice training”, following their completion of a novel work-based competency programme in south east London.

The programme, developed and managed by the JPB, links to the NHS Agenda for Change pay system and the associated Knowledge and Skills Framework so that individuals are supported to achieve the relevant gateway competencies progressively.

According to the JPB, the board was established as a direct response to NHS and health care reform to develop a standardised postgraduate programme for the post-registration development of pharmacists. It also intends to provide an infrastructure to co-ordinate aspects of curriculum design and delivery as well as to support practice tutors and junior pharmacists in the workplace.
