Wales allows use of agalsidase alfa and oral vinorelbine
Agalsidase alfa (Replagal) and oral vinorelbine (Navelbine Oral) have been recommended for use in the NHS in Wales.
In the latest
set of recommendations by the All Wales Medicines Strategy
Group, which received ministerial ratification last week, idursulfase
(Elaprase) was not recommended for use within NHS Wales for the long-term
treatment of patients with Hunter Syndrome, while agalsidase alfa and
oral vinorelbine were both approved.
Agalsidase alfa was recommended for use as a long-term enzyme replacement
therapy in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Fabry disease. Patients
receiving agalsidase
alfa in Wales will be entered into the Fabry Outcomes Survey.
Oral vinorelbine was recommended for use as a single agent for the treatment
of advanced breast cancer (stage III or IV) relapsing after, or refractory
to, an anthracycline-containing regimen. Oral vinorelbine should be used
in line with the current National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence
recommendations for intravenous vinorelbine.
A positive recommendation by the AWMSG places an obligation on trusts
and local health boards in Wales to fund treatment, but AWMSG advice
is interim to any subsequent NICE guidance.
