New benevolent fund manager

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed David Qualter as benevolent fund manager within its finance and resources directorate. This newly created position focuses on co-ordinating the provision of financial assistance and pastoral support to pharmacists, pharmacy students and their dependents on behalf of the benevolent fund trustees. The post also involves working with the trustees to support and implement their aims and objectives.

As fund manager, Mr Qualter will be the principal point of contact for the fund’s charitable activities and be responsible for ensuring that help is delivered appropriately and promptly to those that need it most.

Mr Qualter worked with the Citizens Advice Bureau for over 10 years. Starting as a volunteer adviser, he specialised in benefits advice. He later worked as a service development manager and then as a district manager. Much of his recent work involved liaising with other agencies to secure funding for much needed services.

“The benevolent fund provides a range of excellent services. In addition to financial assistance and pastoral care, we support schemes such as Listening Friends, a telephone help service run by experienced and committed pharmacists who give their time voluntarily to support pharmacists in need of help.,” Mr Qualter said.

“The Benevolent Fund is facing a number of challenges as it seeks to modernise and increase its effectiveness. We hope to make significant changes to the fund over the next few months to provide the best service possible to people in need,” he added.
