Premises fees

Retention fees 2008

Premises fees restricted to 3.8 per cent

From Mr A. Gush, MRPharmS

I would like to demonstrate clearly my frustration at the decision by the Department of Health to restrict the increase in the premises fees to just 3.8 per cent. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has been robustly lobbying the DoH in order to secure full cost recovery of these fees and reduce the financial burden placed on the membership.

We think our arguments were well founded, having provided detailed analysis of figures and we are extremely dissatisfied that the DoH failed to deliver a more favourable decision.

I am most disappointed that this news will result in an increased financial burden on Society members — particularly those who have to pay their own fees — who will be expected to subsidise the resulting shortfall of £81 per pharmacy, a burden of around £22 per member.

Let me assure the membership that we will be contacting the DoH to make our feelings clear and will continue lobbying for more positive decisions in the future.

Andrew Gush
Treasurer
Royal Pharmaceutical Society
