Postgraduate educationWCPPE appointment sends wrong messageFrom Mr B. S. James, MRPharmS I agree with Colin Ranshaw about the appointment of a technician to lead the Welsh Centre for Postgraduate Pharmacy Education (PJ, 8 December 2007, p655). When I first read that this would be so I, too, was concerned. It does indeed send the wrong message. When I was a student at Cardiff University most of our lecturers were originally qualified pharmacists or, if not, they were educated to doctorate level in another subject, eg, chemistry. I believe it is not appropriate for someone to be concerned with a degree-trained, professional group unless he or she is a member of that group. It just does not (and should not) work. With the responsible pharmacist regulations coming into force, this is just one more example of how our profession is going: downhill. B. S. James |
