Consultation on midwife supply launched

Plans to bring the range of medicines that midwives are able to sell, supply or administer in line with modern practice have been put out for consultation by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

If the plans are accepted, midwives will be able to supply miconazole, nystatin, hydrocortisone, anti-D immunoglobulin, adrenaline, prochlorperazine, diclofenac and a range of products for adult and neonatal resuscitation.

The consultation closes on 29 February 2008

Nurse Prescribers’ Formulary Oilatum scalp treatment shampoo and Oilatum scalp intensive shampoo were removed from the Nurse Prescribers’ Formulary on 1 December 2007.

A range of other Oilatum products remains prescribable by community practitioner nurse prescribers.
