Amiloride could be MS treatment

Amiloride reduces degeneration of nerve tissue in mice with a condition that mimics multiple sclerosis, according to research published online in Nature Medicine (11 November 2007).

The researchers identified that amiloride exerts its neuroprotective effect primarily by blocking the acid-sensing ion channel-1, therefore preventing the accumulation of calcium in nerve cells.
