Society’s president calls for assessment into role of polyclinics

While the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is not opposed to the concept of polyclinics (a model of health care provision suggested in a review health services by health minister Lord Darzi), it is concerned that the network of community pharmacies could be put at risk if the model is replicated around England, according to its President Hemant Patel.

“I call for a study or appropriate impact assessment at local, regional and national level to ensure that public access to health care through improved services in pharmacies is enhanced and not reduced by Lord Darzi’s work,” Mr Patel said at the Council dinner in central London last week.

Guests at the dinner included health minister Dawn Primarolo.
