NHS Scotland is improving

NHS Scotland’s performance is improving, according to a report published last week by Audit Scotland (PDF 820K).

The report examined whether Scotland’s 14 NHS boards and nine special health boards met clinical and financial targets during 2006–07.

Life expectancy is improving, as are mortality rates for diseases such as cancer and coronary heart disease. However, this is not matched in public health, where rates of obesity and drug and alcohol problems are rising.
