Three-in-one HIV tablet

Fixed-combination tablets containing efavirenz, emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil have been launched by Gilead.

The tablets, marketed as Atripla, are indicated for the treatment of HIV infection in adults who have virological suppression to HIV-1 RNA levels below 50 copies/ml on their current therapy for more than three months.

Patients must not have experienced virological failure on other regimens and they must also be known not to have harboured virus strains with mutations conferring significant resistance to any of the three components of Atripla.
