Society’s new Disciplinary Committee takes over reins from the Statutory Committee

Responsibility for the professional discipline of pharmacists has now passed from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Statutory Committee to its new Disciplinary Committee.

The Statutory Committee, which was established under the Pharmacy Act 1933, held its final meeting on 13 December 2007. Its chairman, Lord Fraser of Carmyllie, subsequently tendered his resignation to the Privy Council.

Lord Fraser was appointed chairman of the Statutory Committee in April 2000 following the resignation of its previous chairman Gary Flather.

Lord Fraser was also the first chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. His resignation leaves that committee without a chairman until a replacement is appointed by the Privy Council. But, unlike the former Statutory Committee, the Disciplinary Committee has a vice-chairman and can continue to function normally.
