BAPW raises focus on good distribution practice — and ensuring its members’ adherence
Good distribution practice (GDP) is to be boosted by the British Association of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers with a new initiative, launched this week.
The Responsible Persons Committee, to be chaired by a representative of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, will help to ensure that BAPW full members are self-auditing and adhering to the association’s standards for GDP. Each wholesaler has a “responsible person” who is approved by the MHRA to ensure GDP is followed.
BAPW executive director Martin Sawer told The Journal that the BAPW would invite the responsible person from each of its full members to sit on the committee. The committee’s remit and processes are to be considered at its first meeting, expected to take place in the next six months, he added.
The BAPW has also confirmed the establishment of an affiliate membership category. Pharmacy chains as well as industry, pharmacy and medical representative bodies will be invited to become affiliate members, which will allow them to attend BAPW business days and work more closely with the association.
