Energy efficiency body for NHS

A new body to monitor and encourage energy efficient practices throughout the NHS in England is being established by the Government.

The NHS Sustainable Development Unit will set out evaluation systems and identify good practice for energy use in all aspects of activity. Positive results have already been seen through the “Healthy futures” programme, run by the Government’s Sustainable Development Commission, which has helped NHS organisations to implement initiatives such as park and ride, wind turbines and use of locally sourced food.
