Benefits of the human papillomavirus vaccine Gardasil continue to outweigh its risks, says the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) following several reports of sudden and unexpected deaths among young women who had received the vaccine.

Two such reports came from the EU, where the EMEA estimates that about 1.5 million patients have been vaccinated with Gardasil. “No causal relationship has been established between the deaths of the young women and the administration of Gardasil,” the regulator says.
