Cancer control prioritisation call

Slovenia, which currently holds the EU presidency, has called for cancer control to be made a priority in Europe.

A report from the presidency says that there are significant differences between the EU member states in terms of cancer protection, access to services and treatment outcomes. Expected population growth means that, all else being equal, cancer cases will increase by 20 per cent by 2020. The report calls for urgent action and for the creation of a new patient-centred research agenda.
