Disciplinary Committee chairman appointed

Two top positions on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Disciplinary Committee have been filled with the appointment of a chairman and deputy chairman, the Society announced this week.

Current deputy chairman of the committee His Honour Judge Mota Singh QC has now been appointed chairman and Patrick Milmo QC has been appointed deputy chairman.

Judge Singh was called to the English bar in 1967 and was appointed to the bench in 1982. On his latest appointment, he commented: “The committee’s work is crucial in ensuring public safety and the maintenance of public confidence as well as high standards across the pharmacy profession.”

Mr Milmo has appeared in many high profile libel actions, and was counsel to the Jockey Club for a number of years and sat on its disciplinary panel. He also sits as an employment tribunal chairman and believes that this experience will bring a valuable perspective to the committee proceedings. “This is an interesting role concerned with a profession of increasing influence and importance in the health world. I am looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

Responsibility for the professional discipline of pharmacists passed from the Society’s Statutory Committee to its new Disciplinary Committee late last year (PJ, 5/12 January, p4).
