Tributes

Burnett In a tribute to the late George Murray Burnett (PJ, 9 February 2008, p160), SYLVIA COUSINS writes:

George Murray Burnett, a fellow of the Society, qualified as a pharmacist in Aberdeen in 1946.

After time at Ferris Pharmaceuticals in Bristol, George came to Sudbury, Suffolk, in 1955 as plant manager for Stafford Allen, Long Melford, which later became Bush Boake Allen. He was promoted to production manager, and then area manager, a post he held until his retirement in 1983.

During his career, George served on several committees, including subcommittee A for the British Pharmaceutical Codex, and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. In the late 1970s he held various posts on the committee of the Colchester branch, including chairman, where his organisational skills were much in evidence.

In March 2007, George celebrated 60 years on the Register with a luncheon in the banqueting suite of the Society’s headquarters, inviting his family and pharmacist friends. A widower since 2000, George will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
