Sainsbury’s supermarket to host GP appointments as part of access improvement trial

Some patients will be able to see their GP out of hours at a local Sainsbury’s supermarket in Manchester from this week, as part of a six-month trial to improve access and convenience.

The arrangement, set up by Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Trust and run by local GPs at the Heaton Park Sainsbury’s, allows patients registered at certain practices to book an out-of-hours appointment — from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Mondays and Thursdays, and from 11am to 3pm on Saturdays.

Patients will be seen in a fully equipped consultation room located inside the store’s pharmacy.

Asda pharmacy As part of expansion plans announced by Asda this week, the supermarket will open 50 new in-store pharmacies, creating over 100 pharmacist posts.
