information leaflets for medicines licensed in the UK are available online |
Cubicin
New information on renal insufficiency has been added to the summary
of product characteristics for Cubicin (daptomycin; Novartis). “Severe
renal insufficiency may in itself also predispose to elevations in daptomycin
levels which may increase the risk of development of myopathy,” it
states. Peripheral neuropathy has been added to the list of side effects
from post-marketing surveillance.
MabCampath
MabCampath (alemtuzumab; Bayer Schering Pharma/Genzyme) is now indicated
for the treatment of patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
for whom fludarabine combination chemotherapy is not appropriate, MabCampath’s
summary of product characteristics now states.
Ridaura
Patients should be advised to minimise exposure to ultraviolet light
when taking Ridaura Tiltab (auranofin; Astellas), the product’s
summary of product characteristics now states. The SPC also now warns
that concomitant use with disease modifying agents such as penicillamine,
levamisole and chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine is not recommended. Patients
with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase
deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take Ridaura.
The special warnings section also includes new information on rare
but potentially serious enterocolitis.
