Drug promotion complaints

Complaints by two pharmacy companies about medicines promotions on the internet by rivals have been upheld by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

In January 2008, Boots Pharmacy complained that Pharmacy2U was promoting triple packs of 32 Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets. Boots Pharmacy alleged that this was promoting the purchase of an inappropriate quantity of an over-the-counter analgesic and that no licensed triple-pack existed. The MHRA upheld the complaint and Pharmacy2U withdrew the promotion immediately.

The following month, Pharmacy2U complained that Chemist Direct was promoting a Solpadeine Plus multipack of two boxes of 32 tablets. The MHRA upheld the complaint and the promotion was immediately withdrawn.
