Drug Tariff no longer to be distributed free in Wales

Paper copies of the Drug Tariff

Paper copies of the Drug Tariff can be purchased through LHBs in Wales

Free paper copies of the Drug Tariff will no longer be distributed in Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government has revealed.

In a letter to Community Pharmacy Wales and the heads of pharmacy and medicines management of all local health boards in Wales, the WAG says it has no additional resources to support continued free supply and that the last free copies will be the March 2008 edition.

However, copies can be purchased at a discount when ordered through local health boards so pharmacists may want to contact their LHBs directly to arrange supply. A cost of £3 has been suggested by the WAG but the Prescription Pricing Division says this figure is yet to be finalised. The PPD will be contacting local health boards shortly to ascertain numbers required.

The WAG also points out that pharmacists receive funding to pay for broadband internet access and that the Electronic Drug Tariff is available online
