Genomic medicine risks and benefits to be looked at by Lords
Potential benefits and risks of genomic medicines are to be examined by a parliamentary subcommittee.
The House of Lords Science
and Technology Committee has appointed a sub-committee
to assess the actual and potential impact of genome technologies on clinical
practice. The subcommittee will consider who currently monitors developments,
provides advice and develops policy in this area, as well as whether
regulatory gaps exist.
It will also look at what impact genomic information will have on the
classification
of disease and on individualised medical
advice.
Further details of the inquiry are available
online.
The closing date for submitting written evidence is 21 April 2008.
