Pharmacy lobbies Lib Dems

Pharmacy organisations in Scotland joined forces last weekend to lobby politicians about pharmacists’ role in public health and chronic disease management.

Members of both the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments discussed pharmacy issues with representatives from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and Community Pharmacy Scotland at a Liberal Democrat conference in Aviemore.

One issue highlighted by the pharmacy organisations, which jointly manned a “Pharmacy in Scotland” stand at the conference, was the need for community pharmacists to have access to an appropriate part of the electronic patient record.

Ross Finnie MSP, the Liberal Democrat shadow health secretary, said: “The work of the ‘Pharmacy in Scotland’ partnership is helping pharmacists become recognised as a core part of our nation’s health service.”
