“Developing treatments”, a new museum display, has been launched by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to mark National Science and Engineering Week, which runs from 7–16 March 2008.

The week is co-ordinated by the British Association for the Advancement of Science in partnership with the Engineering and Technology Board and funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

The free display, which opens on 7 March 2008 for 12 months, is on show in the Society’s reception area, and is open to all visitors Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

As part of National Science and Engineering Week, the Society will also be answering medicines-related questions from the public through its participation in “The big question”, which challenges the public to ask questions on any science-related topic.

BPC Science medal Yvonne Perrie, professor in drug delivery at the School of Life and Health Sciences, Aston University, Birmingham, has been announced as the winner of the 2007 British Pharmaceutical Conference Science medal. She will receive her award at this year’s BPC in September, where she will also present a lecture on her research into the liposomal delivery of drugs and vaccines.

Professor Perrie’s work has involved enhancing the applicability and efficacy of new vaccines to protect against a range of infectious diseases. She is also looking at using liposomes to improve drug targeting.
