The summaries of product characteristics and patient information leaflets for medicines licensed in the UK are available online

Genotropin
Information about treatment in the transition phase which follows the growth phase in childhood-onset growth hormone deficiency (GHD) has been added to the summaries of product characteristics for Genotropin (somatropin) and Genotropin Miniquick. The SPC now states that where childhood-onset GHD persists into adolescence, treatment should be continued to achieve full somatic development.

Reyataz
Reyataz (atazanavir) is now contraindicated for use in combination with products containing St John’s wort in Reyataz’s summary of product characteristics. The SPC also now states that co-administration of Reyataz with proton pump inhibitors is not recommended.

Bumetanide
LEO Pharma has discontinued its bumetanide oral solution 0.2mg/ml.

Merck Sharp and Dohme has discontinued Clinoril (sulindac) tablets 100mg.

Retin-A
Janssen-Cilag has discontinued Retin-A (tretinoin) cream 0.025 per cent. Retin-A gel 0.01 per cent and 0.025 per cent remain available.

Tagamet
GlaxoSmithKline will be discontinuing Tagamet (cimetidine) 200mg/2ml ampoules.

Products miscellany

Baxter oncology products
Baxter will no longer be using the brand names of a number of its oncology products and will be using the generic names of these medicines instead. The order codes, formulation, prescribing information, administration, dosage and reconstitution of these products remain unchanged.

The products affected are:

  • Mitoxana (ifosfamide) injection 1g and injection 2g
  • Uromitex (mesna) tablets 400mg, tablets 600mg, injection 400mg and injection 1g
  • Endoxana (cyclophosphamide) tablets 50mg, injection 500mg and injection 1g
