Pension help for volunteers

Public servants who work as volunteers in poor countries through certain UK-based agencies are to have their pension contributions met while they are abroad.

A fund of £13m (from the Department of Health, the Department for International Development and the Department for Children, Schools and Families) will cover volunteers leaving the UK between April 2008 and March 2011, for a period of between seven and 24 months.
