Society advice and guidance via myRPSGB

From Mr D. M. Pruce, MRPharmS

Last week saw new guidance issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency advising that certain cough and cold treatments should not be used for infants and children under two years of age.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society worked to ensure members were informed by issuing an e-alert via myRPSGB.

The alert outlined the reasons behind the decision, explained the medicines affected, provided Society guidance for the treatment of coughs and colds and also included further advice for healthcare professionals.

The same information was also sent via the branches and regional network and was made available on the Society’s website.

The Society has received a high number of calls from members and we are aware that the current information made available by the MHRA does not address all the issues.

The Practice and Quality Improvement team are working on detailed guidance which we will make available through The Pharmaceutical Journal and on the Society’s website. We will also be providing an online link to this information via myRPSGB.

Going forward, myRPSGB will be a key channel that the Society will use to communicate directly with members. I would encourage those who are yet to fully engage with this service to do so by logging onto the system via the Society’s website.

David Pruce
Director of Practice and Quality Improvement
