Pharmacy in England: building on strengths — delivering the future

White Paper to offer new pharmacy roles

Plans to extend the services available from community pharmacies in England were due to be published in a White Paper this week after The Journal went to press. A link to the document will be posted on PJ Online as soon as it becomes available.

One day before publication of the pharmacy White Paper, The Daily Telegraph reported that primary care trusts would be given power to commission new services from pharmacies, such as managing long-term conditions like asthma and diabetes, checking that patients are taking appropriate medicines, travel and vaccination clinics and a range of health checks, such as blood pressure and cholesterol tests.
