All GP computer systems in Wales should now have the necessary software for repeat dispensing, according to Paul Gimson, chief executive of Community Pharmacy Wales.

GP systems suppliers in Wales were instructed to enable the repeat dispensing functionality last month. Mr Gimson told The Journal that uptake of the repeat dispensing service in Wales had not been as great as had been expected.

However, he added that more GPs are likely to become interested in the scheme when it becomes fully electronic. CPW is encouraging local health boards to work with pharmacy contractors and GP practices to increase uptake of the service, he said.
