PDA Union inaugurated and applies for Government listing

The Pharmacists’ Defence Association Union has formally applied for listing to the Government Trades Union Certification Officer following the inaugural meetings of its five membership groups and the formation of its full executive committee.

Newly elected general secretary of the union, John Murphy, said: “The formation of the PDA Union will, for the first time, give us statutory rights of representation for our members in order to protect their terms and conditions both individually and collectively.”

The PDA Union was inaugurated on 2 April 2008 and currently has around 8,000 members. The union is open to pharmacists, pre-registration trainees and pharmacy undergraduates, but excludes directors of pharmacy companies, superintendents of pharmacy chains greater than 10 shops and proprietors of pharmacy businesses.

The chairmen of each of the PDA Union membership groups and executive committee officers will be attending the PDA conference on 27 April 2008 in Birmingham.
