Avian influenza: case report

Concerns about person-to-person transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza have surfaced again after a report published online in The Lancet shows that a father diagnosed with the infection in China probably caught it from his son (8 April 2008).

The 24-year-old son died and his 52-year-old father survived after receiving early antiviral treatment and post-vaccination plasma from a participant in an H5N1 vaccine trial.
