HIV researchResearchers have shown that in vitro inhibition of a cellular protein, inducible T-cell kinase (ITK), can block HIV replication at multiple steps: HIV gene transcription, viral entry and viral particle production and release (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 28 April 2008). “Our results suggest that ITK inhibition provides a model for the study of cellular protein targets that affect HIV infection, which may be useful as part of a multidrug regimen directed against HIV,” they say. |
