Advice to patients (9) Amoxycillin capsules
- Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections. It is a type of penicillin. If you are allergic to penicillin, do not take any of this medicine without first talking to your doctor/dentist.
- Try to space the doses evenly through the day - one dose every eight hours if you are taking a dose three times a day.
- It is important that you complete the course of treatment even if you feel better quickly.
- Food does not affect this medicine, so you can take it with food or on an empty stomach.
- Most medicines sometimes have side effects. With amoxycillin, you may have mild diarrhoea or indigestion. If you have bad diarrhoea, skin rashes, itching, wheezing or difficulty breathing tell your doctor straight away.
- For women of child-bearing age Amoxycillin can reduce the effectiveness of some contraceptive pills. You may need to use an additional form of contraception while you are taking it.
