Advice to patients (6) Bendrofluazide tablets
- Bendrofluazide tablets are often called "water" or "fluid" tablets, or "diuretics". They work by increasing the amount of urine you produce.
- When you first start to take the tablets you will probably need to go to the toilet more often, but you will notice this less once you have been taking them for a while.
- It is best to take the tablets in the morning so you do not need to get up in the night to go to the toilet.
- Some medicines you can buy (such as cold and hayfever remedies) should not be taken with these tablets. Make sure you ask me or the doctor before you take anything else.
- Like all medicines, this one can have some unwanted effects. If you feel light-headed when you get up, try and stand up more slowly and count to 20 before walking. Tell your doctor if you become very thirsty, weak, tired or confused.
This series of "advice tips" on commonly used drugs is written by
pharmacists from the Sussex Pharmacy Academic Practice Unit. It is intended
as a reminder of points to be made by pharmacists as they hand out dispensed
medicines. The list is not intended to be comprehensive but to cover some important
points.
