Prescribing faculty sets out agenda

The College of Pharmacy Practice’s faculty of prescribing and medicines management has released details of its work plan. The main parts of the plan are:

  • Setting out competencies necessary for prescribing and medicines management by pharmacists.
  • Setting up an assessment programme to allow pharmacists to attain membership or fellowship of the faculty.
  • Accrediting courses and training providers.
  • Setting up a working group to consider the implications of pharmacist prescribing.
  • Developing corporate governance procedures for the faculty and its board.
  • Arranging events and an annual general meeting.

Ian Simpson, currently professional secretary of the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, has been appointed chief executive of the college. He starts work with the college on 12 November. Mr Simpson succeeds Mr Michael Lucas, who left in August.
