Aintree NHS Trust gets modern aseptic unit

Brian Smith, deputy chief pharmacist (left), explains the CCTV monitoring system to Peter Kilfoyle MP

A new aseptic unit has been opened at the University Hospital, Aintree, part of the Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust. The unit was opened by Liverpool MP, Peter Kilfoyle on 30 November.

One notable feature of the unit is the presence of closed circuit television (CCTV) monitoring, which means that in-process checks can be carried out from a remote location. The unit also has a full industrial methylated spirit (IMS) extraction system to ensure that staff exposure to IMS is minimised.
