Hospital Pharmacists Group: stronger links to be made
The Hospital Pharmacists Group is a small part of
the Society, but it is the engine for innovation, remarked Keith Farrar,
chairman of the group, at the January HPG committee meeting which Hospital
Pharmacist was invited to attend.
The HPG is one of four membership groups of the
Royal Pharmaceutical Society which holds meetings to consider topics of
interest and provides advice to the Society's Council on specialist matters.
Membership of the HPG is open to all pharmacists who are involved in the
secondary and tertiary care sectors. The main remit of the group is to
consider issues relating to any aspect of hospital pharmacy practice and
to promote knowledge and standards of practice.
Of particular interest on the agenda was the group's
strategic objectives for 2002, including liaison and collaboration with
the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists when appropriate, and informing hospital
pharmacists of the issues being addressed by the HPG committee. There
were also discussions on Mr Farrar's document on a strategy for hospital
pharmacy which should be published imminently, and on ways of raising
the profile of the group.
The committee welcomed the idea of Hospital Pharmacist
being recognised as a channel of communication between the group and
hospital pharmacists. Strengthening of links with the group will result
in more information from the HPG in Hospital Pharmacist pages.
