New agreement could lead to more comparative trials
An agreement between the pharmaceutical industry and
the Department of Health could mean that more trials comparing drugs in
the same class could be undertaken.
The agreement will allow joint funding of clinical
trials which are of a non-commercial nature but which are important to
the industry and the National Health Service. These could include comparative
trials across a class of medicines or a range of products for one disease
that individual companies are not likely to undertake.
The research and development partnership agreement
is intended to speed up the establishment of clinical trials for new medicines
conducted within the NHS.
