New chairman for Hospital Pharmacists Group
The committee of the Society's Hospital Pharmacists
Group (HPG) elected their new chairman at the spring meeting this week.
Dr Richard Needle, chief pharmacist, Essex Rivers
Healthcare NHS Trust takes over from Keith Farrar who has completed his
two-year term.
The vice chairman is to be Simon Riley, chief pharmacist,
Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Norman Lannigan and Roger Tredree are not standing
for another term of office and voting papers are being sent out this week
to elect two new members of the group. The count takes place on 10 June.
It emerged at the meeting that the group is close
to updating and finalising the Duthie report. The original report, which
concerns the safe and secure handling of medicines, was published in 1988.
The HPG commissioned an update which is close to going out to a number
of standing advisory committees, including those for doctors, dentists
and nurses, for their endorsement. The Society will publish the updated
report once the comments of these bodies are incorporated.
It was announced by the Society that Helen Remington,
chief pharmacist at Addenbrooke's Hospital,Cambridge, is to chair a working
group looking at the regulation of technicians. The project manager is
Janet Flint, practice pharmacist.
