New thrombosis care award for pharmacists

An annual award that will recognise the contribution of pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in the management of thrombosis, has recently been launched.

The Thrombosis Leaders of the Future Awards will be divided into three categories: prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in "at risk" patients; diagnosis and management of VTE; and stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. Each of the winners will receive a cash prize of £2,000 to enable them attend a meeting or training events, as well as another prize of £2,000 to support thrombosis-related services or practice within their department.

Applications for the award will be in the form of a piece of writing of 2,000-3,000 words either describing an innovative practice in which the entrant is involved or outlining the entrant's vision of how thrombosis care should progress in the next three to five years. The closing date for submissions of entries is 31 October.

The awards have been established by Thrombosis Quorum, an educational organisation, and supported by an educational grant from the pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca.
