New guidance on exploiting innovations in the NHSThe Department of Health has produced guidance on how NHS and primary care trusts should manage intellectual property (IP) generated by their employees. The guidance states that trusts can now form companies with external investors to exploit IP in the same way as universities, provided such partnerships are approved by the Department. NHS employees, including pharmacists, who contribute to innovations that are exploited in this way may also hold shares in such companies if their employer holds shares. Trusts will also be able to retain income generated by the successful exploitation of IP. Further information on the guidance is available at www.innovations.nhs.uk |
