Avoiding methotrexate errorsCounselling for outpatients on weekly doses of methotrexate should not be optional, according to the US-based Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP). In an article published for the third quarter 2002 issue of the newsletter, National Pharmacy Compliance News, the ISMP noted that errors associated with the weekly dosing of methotrexate for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, occurred because clinicians and patients are much more familiar with the daily dosing of medicines. The article, “Beware of erroneous daily oral methotrexate dosing” is available here. |
