Funding for matrons

Modern matrons are to receive £2m to improve patients' experiences of emergency care. Each matron in charge of an A&E department will get at least £10,000 to spend how they wish on raising standards of hygiene, cleanliness and care. Re-designing reception areas to make them more patient-friendly, extra cleaning, and more painting and decorating programmes are examples of how the budgets may be spent.
