New-look Brompton pharmacy opened

A newly renovated pharmacy at the Royal Brompton Hospital was opened in June by Lord Newton of Braintree, chairman of the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust.

Prior to the refurbishment, there were two separate dispensaries at the hospital site, but the dispensary services have been amalgamated so that a single dispensary is now home to the entire dispensary team Richard Goodman, director of pharmacy, Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust told Hospital Pharmacist that “this single dispensary service allows us to channel resources towards the implementation of one stop dispensing, patient own drugs and a self-medication service.” He also pointed out that the new-look pharmacy dispensary and stores provide a bright, modern and efficient environment for both patients and staff.

During his openeing speech, Lord Newton highlighted the importance of pharmacists in reduing medication risk and improving patient outcomes by supporting evidence-based practice.
