Technician of the year winner is announced

Award winner, Marie-Louise Lewis

The AAH hospital pharmacy technician of the year award 2003 has been won by Marie-Louise Lewis, senior medicines managment technician,Glan Clwyd Hopsital, Bodelwyddan, Clwyd for her paper “Does a technician led ward medicines management service reduce error?”

The paper is to be presented at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists clinical meeting in New Orleans in December and Ms Lewis will receive her award at a presentation ceremony in London in October.

Commenting on the award, Ms Lewis told Hospital Pharmacist that “My legs turned to jelly and the urge to keep saying thank you was overwhelming. I am really pleased to have won the award and that the huge amount of work that we have achieved locally in such a short space of time has been acknowledged outside the trust.”

The awards were established to promote the important role that pharmacy technicians play in developing and improving hospital pharmacy services.

Entries for 2004 will be called for in October. Contact Sarah Wardle (e-mail sarah.wardle@AAH.co.uk) for details.
